Voices That Care

From May to July 2025 we hosted a series of 6 shows listening to the voices of unpaid carers. The aim of the shows was to talk about social isolation and loneliness among the UK’s unpaid carer workforce and to discuss how the situation is even worse for Black and ethnic minority carers.

These shows were funded by We Love Manchester Stronger Communities Fund and we used two reports; the Carer’s UK report: Supporting Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Carers: A good practice briefing and the Carer’s UK (NI) policy briefing: Loneliness Amongst Unpaid Carers to develop our questions.

Mostly though, we listened to people tell their stories of caring within a health system that is complex, expensive and lacking in support for people who find themselves caring for a loved one. Some people become unpaid carers unexpectedly and often they assume the role for many years.

Join us in listening to their powerful and heartbreaking experiences. We thank everyone who was brave enough to share their voices with us.
