Cost of Living Shows

October 2023 saw the start of our series of 18 community shows looking at all aspects of the cost of living crisis. The project was started during Black History Month as its purpose is to support people on low incomes, unemployed, long term ill or anyone else who is struggling to cope with the crisis and we know that Black people are disproportionately represented in these categories.

The shows started on Friday, 6th October with Denise Southworth talking to the Greater Manchester Law Centre about housing, particularly what you can do if you are a tenant, and how to cope if you leave an abusive relationship. This show was followed on Thursday, 12th October, by DJ Lascelles talking to the Citizen's Advice Manchester about debt management. These were followed by shows featuring The Tenant's Union, MSV Housing, Maternity Action and Greater Manchester Immigration Aid and our very own Community Project and Fundraising Coordinator, Lynn.

These shows were funded by the People's Postcode Trust (we want to thank everyone who plays the Postcode Lottery), We Love Manchester Charity's Stronger Communities Fund and the Spirit of Manchester Award.
